Colts Act Boldly in Latest PFF Mock Draft

A revolving door at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts has been a common theme over the past few years. As the organization continues to search for a new head coach, they're also in the market for a franchise quarterback. In the latest Pro Football Focus mock draft, they're moving up to the top of the draft to pick the future.

The NFL playoffs are just around the corner. So if the Colts want to get in the mix, they need to address the quarterback position. Not only do they need to find a starter, but they're also going to need to fill a few holes on the back end of their defense. For instance, they need to bolster their pass defense.

One player that the Colts have shown some interest in is Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. He's shown off some of the best numbers in college football. His athletic ability and leadership qualities should make him a valuable part of an offense.

He has a strong arm, quick release, and accuracy. He's also a solid pocket passer. His upside is that he's a very good run-stuffer. If he can stay healthy, he could be a big asset to the Colts' offensive scheme.

However, there are many other players to consider in the first round. First and foremost, you have

to decide whether or not you're going to trade up to get the coveted No. 1. Of course, that doesn't mean that you need to give up anything of value. But it does mean that you have to be careful with the first pick.

Another candidate is Ohio State's, C.J. Stroud. He's smart, accurate, and has the right intangibles. He's a bit late to the party, but he could be a solid option as a franchise quarterback.

Then there's Will Levis, who has the power and accuracy to be a great fit in the Colts' running-first offense. Ideally, he'd work well with Greg Rousseau.

Lastly, there's Chase Claypool. He's the type of big slot guy that could be a huge help this season. His ability to run inside and out gives him a chance to show off against nickel corners.

With a little luck, the Colts can use the second first-rounder to draft an offensive playmaker. There's also a good chance that the team will get the opportunity to pick up a blue-chip defensive line prospect.

The Colts have a strong track record when it comes to trading at the top of the draft. They traded three second-round picks to move from fourth to sixth in 2018. This year's Colts were in 14th place before December's NFL Draft. Rather than risk losing their best quarterback to a division rival, they should be willing to give up a couple of picks to get a coveted player.

Those are just a few of the many draft options that the Colts have to consider this year. It's a busy offseason, but it should be an exciting time for the organization.
